New Data: Labor Force by County & Lithium Lease Areas

The Arkansas GIS Office is happy to announce that we have added two new layers to our platform. The Labor Force Data layer indicates the size of the civilian labor force for each county in Arkansas. Data includes the number of employed and unemployed residents in each county, as well as the unemployment rate.

The information for this layer was provided by the labor market information team within the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services, Workforce Policy and Innovation, under the Arkansas Department of Commerce. Civilian labor force data is produced in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. Data is calculated monthly and subject to revision.

Special thanks to the labor market information team for your assistance in creating this GIS dataset!

To underscore the importance and value of this dataset Secretary Hugh McDonald, Arkansas Department of Commerce stated that  “Labor force data is an important part of the toolset our state uses to attract new opportunities and jobs for Arkansans.  Local economic development leaders will now be able to use this data in their own GIS systems to develop custom labor force maps for their community and region.”

The second dataset added was Lithium Lease Areas as maintained by the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission. This data represents areas in Lafayette, Columbia, and Union Counties in Arkansas that have lithium and bromine wells, provided by the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment via the Arkansas Oil and Gas Well Commission. The Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment Statewide lithium and bromine plants, wells, and leased areas provide information for positioning maintained on a quarterly basis.

Additionally, this data represents an important component of the State’s lithium and bromine gas well provider areas and plant locations, as they pertain to specific well utilities available to the state of Arkansas. The Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission also maintains a web application to view this dataset at https://aogc.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/basic/index.html?appid=4f8a220a7136498faab879b7e58fb2d2
