Data Update: Levee Districts

The Arkansas GIS Office is pleased to announce the addition of the Southeast Arkansas Levee District to the statewide levee district jurisdiction boundaries.

The Southeast Arkansas Levee District was created by Act 83 of 1917 of the State of Arkansas and amendments thereto. Included within the District are parts of the former Linwood and Auburn Levee Districts of Lincoln County and Desha County, Arkansas, respectively; the Red Fork Levee District and Desha Levee District of Desha County, Arkansas; and the Chicot Levee District of Chicot County, Arkansas. All these districts were combined under the heading of Southeast Arkansas Levee District, which now has its equipment headquarters in Arkansas City, Arkansas.  The District is charged with the construction, maintenance and repair of the West Bank Mainline Mississippi River Levee in Chicot and Desha Counties, Arkansas, and the South Bank of the Arkansas River Levee in Desha and Lincoln Counties, Arkansas. The District comprises all the Counties of Chicot and Desha and all that part of Lincoln County, lying East of the Center of Bayou Bartholomew, State of Arkansas.
